My name is Erik Terpstra. Born and raised in Washington State, I have always been fascinated by the ocean. My interest was initially captured by the ocean’s tremendous diversity and is sustained by its many uncharted and unexplored depths. As a University of Washington undergraduate, I have taken an array of oceanography courses. I have participated in multiple “field trips” on the Thomas G. Thompson, at the Friday Harbor Labs, and along the Washington Coastline. Unlike other fields, I have found that oceanographic study involves hands-on learning through research. I have decided to incorporate Oceanography into my studies for this reason.
