Nancy Penrose serves as the communications coordinator for the Regional Scale Nodes Program at the University of Washington. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from Oregon State University and Master of Arts in English as a Second Language from the University of Hawaii. She has worked in ocean science research since her undergraduate days at Oregon State and has frequently blended her science background with her writing and editing skills. She has been a technical editor in industry and academe, including having served as the head of the Publications Department at the UW Applied Physics Laboratory.
In her free time, she writes creative nonfiction and won the Silver Award, 2007 Solas Awards for travel writing for her essay Flamenco Form. Her piece The Warp of Memory was named Grand Prize winner in the Summer 2008 issue of the literary magazine Memoir (and).
