James serves as a member of the Sentry team, focusing
on the control and navigation systems. He received his doctorate in
Mechanical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University in oceanographic
submersible navigation and has co-authored the navigation system used on
the Alvin manned submersible and numerous remotely operated vehicles.
Currently a Deep Ocean Exploration Institute Postdoctoral Scholar at
the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, he is developing the technology
and estimation techniques necessary for implementing gravity surveying
on Sentry.
