Dense colonies of octo corals are associated with sites of methane seeps at the Pinnacle deposit on Southern Hydrate Ridge. Orange and white mats of Beggiatoa mark sites of fluid flow out of the carbonate. These organisms may create micro anoxic environments important to carbonate deposition.
